The Ivy Wing and The Cottage are situated in the courtyard of Barrock House, and surrounded by landscaped grounds and mature woodland. This provides shelter for an abundance of bird and wild life with pleasant walks close at hand and the scenic beaches of Sinclair and Dunnet Bay are just 5 minutes by car. The Cottage makes the perfect base for touring this unspoilt and tranquil part of the Highlands. Visit the Castle and Gardens of Mey, the Queen Mother’s Highland home, John O’Groats, Wick Heritage and Lyth Arts Centre, or take a wildlife or distillery tour. Golfing, fishing, sea trips or walking along the many miles of rugged coastline are just some of the many activities available. Lyth is situated just 10 miles north of Wick and 15 miles from Thurso, making the beautiful Orkney Isles easily accessible by car ferry for day trips. Both properties can be booked together for larger groups (ref’s W42082 and W42083). Shop, pub and restaurant 4.5 miles.

1st comment: A wonderful step back in time (intentional or not). We really enjoyed the house, the owners are lovely people eager to please. The kids absolutely loved the adventure garden. July 2011. 3rd comment: A very pretty place...July 2011. 4th comment: The main feature of this was the old log burning fire places also the age of the property it was like walking back 200 years it was lovely. It is ideally situated for easy reach of what we needed to do and see. The landlady made a point of coming to meet us which meant we could get some info on the history of the building and she was a pleasure to meet she made us feel very much at home and during our stay we met her children who again were very pleasant and informative. Aug 2010. 5th comment: ’Olde world’ charm and tranquility. Just perfect. July 2010. 6th comment: Llots of character, lovely quiet location. Well equipped house and furniture in keeping with the house. Good beds. July 2010. 7th comment: Nice secluded property with plenty living space. May 2010. 8th comment: The Ivy Wing was just so nice. The owner was so nice and helpful with a nice welcoming note, bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival. We arrived quite late but the owner checked the following morning early to be sure that we were ok and if we needed anything not to hesitate to ask. We loved the awesome locations and had a wonderful few meals at the The Bay Owl at Latheron, just suberb. Many thanks. July 2009. 9th comment: The property was spacious and very comfortable.       Castle Sinclair Girnigoe is located about 3 miles north of Wick on the east coast of Caithness.. It is considered to be one of the earliest seats of Clan Sinclair. It is a ruin in spectacular position on the coast facing north.

      Ruinous C16th castle near to Wick in Caithness. Its most striking characteristic is its position teetering on the efge of the cliff! Walk able or view from the beach. A  photographer's delight.

      The actual gothic castle was demolished in 1952 - what can be seen from the rivers edge is a wall and north tower that looks mediaeval, bit is not

    • Hill o' Many Stanes

      Why are 200 stones aligned in a pattern in this field (and there were probably 600 to start with). What was there purpose? This is the most striking and most mysterious of the stone lines in Caithness. Just off A99 South of Wick and easy to visit. (signposted)
