Customer Reviews of Mar House, nr Braemar, sleeps 8

st comment: Excellent location with walks directly from Mar House and also close by. Facilities very good with a lovely log fire with plenty of fuel. April 2012.

nd comment: Mar House is isolated (bliss!), yet close to (within walking distance - 1/4 mile) of the caretaker Ian, who is very helpful and a ’mind’ of local information. Set in beautiful mountain surrundings and backed by pine forest, it is for us the idylllic ’hide away’. The garden is large, with a gently undulating frontage. Behind the house the land is very steep and ’wild’. An old stone wall disectes the hillside garden and wild flowers, bracken, wildlife and majestic trees are bountiful. The village of Braemar (a 3 mile drive away) has an excellent convenience store (Co-Op)open 7 days a week until late. (Note: on Sundays you cannot buy alcohol before 10.00 am). There is also an equally excellent butcher, selling not only fresh meat, but also fresh vegetables, fruit, breads and pies (the poppy seed rolls and pasties are excellent),and a variety of frozen goods including Mackies Ice Cream - yum! One word for us describes this holiday property: Epic! Sept 2011.

rd comment: The setting is fantastic, the scenery on your doorstep breathtaking fantastic walks on the doorstep, abundance of wildlife to watch. Very homely house, nice and comfy feel. We loved it. Sept 2011.

th comment: Mar Cottage was situated ideally for our needs of accessing some very remote munroes. 10 minute cycle to the Linn of Dee. Cottage very secluded and quiet. Loads of wood provided for the fire which we had every night as it got cool. Every home comfort available and we didn’t feel we were in each others way all the time - plenty of space. Excellent location and cottage. April 2011.

th comment: Excellent location as there was no phone signal. The dog loved the location as the door could be left open for free safe access. If needed internet access at Ballater. Good swimming pool at Aboyne. April 2011.

th comment: The accommodation was very spacious and well beyond what was expected. The photographs and website did not do it justice. Feb 2011.

th comment: Clean, comfortable, warm and excellent location. Nov 2010.

th comment: The house is attractive and set away from the road along a track which makes it quiet and private. Having four bedrooms with four en-suite bathrooms makes it ideal for couples and adults staying. The house is well equiped, lots of hot water and efficient central heating. Sept 2010.

th comment: Spacious accommodation, equipment was plentiful and comprehensive, situated in lovely natural position, top quality walking is available from the door - an outdoor enthusiasts dream . Sept 2010.

th comment: Perfect secluded location. Spacious, well proportioned cottage. A little bit of luxury for everyone, especially with en-suite bathrooms attached to every bedroom. The cottage is set in a huge, natural, Scottish hillside garden, surrounded by woodland, which is full of wildlife - my ’heaven on earth’. Aug 2010.

th Comment Everyone has their own space. Plenty room for the kids to play and the adults to relax. Your not living on top of each other. The bedrooms are all en-suite which is marvelous, because everyone can do their own thing in their own time. Having the dining room space is a bonus and the utility room was good for drying wet outdoor clothing, boots etc. July 2010.

th Comment The cottage is ideally situated and very private, very safe for the children and the dog. Lovely location and only a few minutes drive into the village. Excellent walks right on the door step. The accommodation is excellent in that all the rooms are of a great size and each bedroom is ensuite. 8 of us were on vacation and you never feel you are living on top of each other. The cottage is well laid out and has everything you could want and more. This is our second visit and we are returning again in October. April 2010.

th Comment We took our grandchildren, and they absolutely loved the house from the moment they saw it. Plenty of space for them, and they couldn’t get over the four (!) en suite bedrooms. Wonderful feeling of space, and the house had everything you could want. The heating was first-class, and you didn’t have to use the open fire at all unless you wanted to. Very clean, and in good order throughout. July 2009.
